The boy walked around the beach quietly, a small book grasped in his pale hands. The weather around the town was warm.. In fact, warm was a large understatement. It was hot as hell out there and the red eyed boy found himself on the beach, alone. One thing that was messed up about the city was the fact that there was almost no one in the beach.
"..."
He set the small book by the red and blue beach chair that he set up. It was the perfect place for him.. quiet..
And nobody to disturb him..
Not even those annoying people he calls friends.. Although, they did help when he was down. He had only a few close friends, the rest he just considered acquaintances. The boy wore board shorts and a button up shirt, despite the chilly ocean breeze.
Soon enough the boy walked over to the water and stood where the water could get to the boy's ankles.
'It is quite cold..'
The waves were low, lower than usual and it barely got onto the boy's thighs at it's highest point.
Wait.. Was someone else there?

( I THINK I'VE GOT A LOT OF FRIENDS, BUT I DON'T HERE FROM THEM ) WHAT'S ANOTHER NIGHT ALL ALONE, WHEN YOU'RE SPENDING EVERY DAY ON YOUR OWN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oliver Marshall loved the beach. Perhaps it was just because he had a dog that he went home to walk every day, and they always ended up finding themselves at the beach. Regardless, this was the place Oliver loved most. Sure, he loved being Mr. Popular back at school, with his bad-ass personality and shit reputation, but here he was...
Actually, he didn't know what he was.
Just Oliver. That's what he was. Or rather, who. And, truthfully, the blonde teen liked being just Oliver. It was, in some ways, easier.
Currently, the blonde teen was sitting on a rock, waiting for something interesting, his large dog, Xenocrates laying beside him, ginger head in Oliver's lap. Oliver scratched gently behind the big dog's ears, knowing he loved the sensation of being loved by his owners. Oliver yawned, and nearly closed his eyes, but a motion from the corner of his eye made him snap them open all the way, the thought of possibly going to sleep here on the rock way out of his head.
It took a split second to identify the person, even from a distance, but only because it was someone Oliver knew and saw every day. Oliver stared for a while, letting the breeze blow his messy hair around his face and into his eyes. Needless to say, the blonde teen was completely and utterly captivated. Without a doubt.
Oliver watched the other boy walk into the cold water, shivering at the thought. The slight movement caused Xenocrates to jerk his head up and open his mouth in order to howl.
With a quick, sharp movement, Oliver reached over and clamped the dog's mouth shut. "Be quiet, you bag of bones," he hissed. Quickly, Oliver tied Xenocrates's leash to a post to keep the dog from leaping away, and snuck up behind the other teen.
Shivering, Oliver made his way through the water, though he, unlike Christopher, wasn't wearing board shorts. He lifted his shorts up, attempting to keep them dry, but gave up after a large wave crashed over his head. He reached out to slap Chris on the back of the head.
"Hey, Nerd!"

Christopher could hear someone approaching but before he could turn around, his head was pushed forward.
"Hey, Nerd!"
The voice was way too familiar to him, he didn't even have to turn around. It was Oliver Marshall, one of those clueless humans.
No.. It was Oliver Marshall, his clueless human.
"Yeah, hi.."
He frowned, turning around to fully face the other. He didn't have to look up but the other teen was definitely taller than him by at least an inch.
"You better be careful.. There are some people.. In the school.."
He paused, looking into those emerald orbs of the blonde teen. He was sure that he told him this at least once a day without going into detail.
"That are dangerous.."
With that said, the boy reached up and patted the other's hair, no expression on his face.
"And with that.."
The boy placed his hands on the other's shoulders, putting them in a close situation before attempting to push the other down onto the water.
"You should really.. Really.. Work on your 'Hi's.."
He rolled his eyes and stuffed his hands inside the pockets of his slightly wet shorts, waiting for the other's reaction.

( I THINK I'VE GOT A LOT OF FRIENDS, BUT I DON'T HERE FROM THEM ) WHAT'S ANOTHER NIGHT ALL ALONE, WHEN YOU'RE SPENDING EVERY DAY ON YOUR OWN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oliver laughed at the other boy's feeble hello. Christopher was just so... emotionless, it was entertaining for Oliver to watch.
In a good way, of course.
"You better be careful.. There are some people.. In the school..." Chris paused, giving Oliver time to roll his eyes. "That are dangerous..."
Oliver snickered, nodding his head. "And what is that, the five thousandth time you've told me the same thing?" he asked, rolling his eyes again for an added dramatic effect. "I get it, I gotta be careful," Oliver said in the most whiny, baby voice he could muster, making fun of Chris's attempt at getting him to be careful. Oliver didn't understand it. Why would Chris have to tell him things like that, he was a big boy not some damsel in distress. Besides, he could handle anything at the Academy, even if Chris couldn't.
"You should really.. Really.. Work on your 'Hi's.." The deadpan look on Chris's face made Oliver crazy. Geez, wasn't the guy happy to see him? It was Oliver Marshall, and he was a total hottie. Why couldn't Chris notice that? Why did Chris have to be so... emotionless... all the time?
"Hey, my hellos are fine, you just don't appreciate them enough," Oliver snapped, "Besides, who else do you know who calls you nerd, Christopher?" Oliver asked, drawing out the other boy's name, knowing he only liked being called by his nickname. Oliver smiled a most charming smile, "How was your day?" he innocently added, attempting to prevent any explosions of anger by the other boy.

The rolling of the other's eyes did not help at all.
"And what is that, the five thousandth time you've told me the same thing?"
The boy frowned, this time, it was obvious that he disliked the rolling of the other's eyes.
"The only reason that I'm saying this is.."
The boy paused once more, knowing that the usual continuation to his saying was because I care about you... And it was true, he did care about Oliver but it was way too out of character for him to say so.
"Because I don't want to save you from anything.. bad."
"I get it, I gotta be careful,"
He sounded like one of those annoying babies, he was pretty sure that him, Christopher Angelo Hawthorne, did not whine at all when he was in diapers..
Just as he was about to say something, the boy was interrupted by the blonde's voice once more.
"Hey, my hellos are fine, you just don't appreciate them enough,"
It was his turn to roll his eyes, although no emotion still seemed to be expressed, his actions.. At least, that's what some say.. Was what gave him away.
"Besides, who else do you know who calls you nerd, Christopher?"
Now, a temper vein popped up to the side of the boy's pale sexy face. Oliver knew that he did not like his name, he knew that he thought it was just bullshit.. Because it was!
It was such a common name.
"You better hope.."
Another pause...The other had brought an irresistible smile. So.. Whatever.
"That I'm in a good mood.."
He spoke, sighing.

( I THINK I'VE GOT A LOT OF FRIENDS, BUT I DON'T HERE FROM THEM ) WHAT'S ANOTHER NIGHT ALL ALONE, WHEN YOU'RE SPENDING EVERY DAY ON YOUR OWN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oliver scoffed, like he needed Christopher Hawthorn to protect him. As far as Oliver was concerned, they were both human. But then again, Oliver knew little to nothing about the other races that lived amongst his people. All he knew was there were some people who roamed the streets who just looked off. Like those people with colorful hair and animalistic features. They couldn't possibly be human, but Christopher? He was just another human, right?
For Oliver, that would be a yes. And Oliver was an arrogant bastard who was sure if anyone was protecting anyone, it was he who would be protective of Christopher. He was more athletic, more badass, and certainly more the type to pick fights with others. Perhaps that was why Christopher was so worried, though that apparently didn't cross Oliver's mind.
"You protect me?" he asked, trying hard not to be rude and laugh at Chris's comment, "You, Nerd, aren't nearly as awesome and strong as I am,"
Oh how Oliver was wrong, though there wasn't any way he would know that.
Though having someone like Christopher protecting him may not be a bad idea. At least, if Chris wanted to do it superhero style with no shirt, there would be no way Oliver would pass that up. Though hell if he'd say it out loud.
"Whatever," he tossed his hair out of his eyes and laughed at Christopher's reaction to hearing his full name. Could anybody say 'priceless'. Oliver was a tease, and he was sure Chris knew it was all in good fun, but hell if the other boy didn't get mad as shit when he said it. It was just too fun.
"I'm kidding, geez," Oliver whined, trying to make Chris happy again. Or rather, more happy than he was at hearing his full name.
"You're cute when you're mad, you know," Oliver said casually, as if he was merely bringing up an ordinary subject such as the weather, "Not even joking," he added with a wink, making sure the other boy knew he was far from lying.

The boy breathed slowly, trying to calm himself down but couldn't help but alter the air around him until it was boiling hot but he quickly dismissed the air, naturally replacing it with the cold ocean breeze.
The boy was no ordinary human.. He was an elemental, a sylph at that. He was a freak.. Although not as freaky as those sort of irritating yokai. And then there were those.. Stupid humans who didn't know a thing.. Oliver didn't know a thing either and Chris thought it was because of the gigantic ego the blonde had. After all, the human ego was just a curtain to cover up their emotions..
Right?
The boy let out another sigh as he looked at the other.
"You protect me?"
Christopher narrowed his eyes, staring at the other with those intense crimson eyes of his. Did Oliver really think that he was weak?
"You, Nerd, aren't nearly as awesome and strong as I am,"
Apparently, that was a yes. The sylph placed a hand on the blonde's shoulder and tried to push the other back a bit more. It was so not his day.
"You better watch it, Marshall.."
"Whatever,"
The other had flipped his bangs out of his eyes in one single motion and while he had done so, Christopher walked deeper into the water, not even caring if the waves got higher, he came to the beach to relax. Not get teased by a stupid blonde.
"I'm kidding, geez,"
It was his turn to say whatever, but unlike Oliver, he spoke it to himself. He kept on walking until the water reached his waist and gestured Oliver to come over.
"You're cute when you're mad, you know,"
That comment made the boy redden darkly and, in an attempt to cover up his blushing face, quickly sat down into the salty water.. forgetting that he was still wearing his.. non-water resistant shirt.
He stayed underwater for a while, not hearing the second part to the other's comment.
One.. Two.. Three.. The boy jumped up from the chilly ocean water, his clothes seeming to cling onto his body.. Did he have spare clothes? Maybe..

( I THINK I'VE GOT A LOT OF FRIENDS, BUT I DON'T HERE FROM THEM ) WHAT'S ANOTHER NIGHT ALL ALONE, WHEN YOU'RE SPENDING EVERY DAY ON YOUR OWN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "You better watch it, Marshall.."
Oliver raised an eyebrow. Was that supposed to scare him? As if he'd be scared. Not of Christopher Hawthorn, anyway. The guy was... well, as far as Oliver was concerned, a sissy. Emotionally detached from just about everything. Yet oh so sexy at the same time. Oliver wondered how the other boy could pull it off.
"Watch what, Christopher?" Oliver asked, again using the other boy's full name to spark a reaction. He absolutely loved messing with the dark-haired boy's head, perhaps even flirting ever so slightly with Chris. But nothing ever seemed to happen. Nothing dramatic, anyway. Chris was just Chris, and Oliver was having a hard time getting that fact down in his head.
Oliver froze when the other boy went to sit down under the water, he ran his hand through his hair, utterly surprised at the act. "What are you doing?" he asked, though he was sure Christopher couldn't hear him.
Oliver waited until the other teen emerged from the water to laugh at him. Christopher had seemingly forgotten all about the fact that he had been wearing a shirt, and it was sticking to him all over, letting Oliver use the moment to his advantage.
"You're soaked," the blonde teen pointed out, laughing slightly. He smirked deviously before opening his mouth again to speak. "You should probably take that off, Nerd, or you're going to catch a cold or something,"
The possibility of Christopher catching a cold on such a day was unlikely, though completely possible. The idea was more for Oliver's amusement than anything, though he did want to see the other boy wet and shirtless.

He really didn't care if he was wet and soaked or if he was as dry as a raisin. It made no difference to him. Heck, even his hat was soaked.
"You're soaked,"
The other spoke simply, earning a slightly irritated look from the red eyed boy. He was obviously soaked, why would he need to state it out loud?
Because that's how stupid the other one could be.
"You should probably take that off, Nerd, or you're going to catch a cold or something,"
The boy leaned down and pushed on the water, trying to splash the blonde teen from head down.
"Yeah, you'd like that wouldn't you Marshall. Plus, even if I did catch a cold.. I know that you'd be there to keep me snug"
He replied back, a playful hint could be found in the red eyed boy's voice if one dug deep enough.
"...Right?"
He sat back down in the water once more, his shirt still on and sort of bended the air around the water to push the waves that kept on coming back that way, completely forgetting that Oliver was still there. It was an inconsiderate hobby of his to just randomly play with his powers, whether it be to thicken the density of the air into some sort of barrier or sending out sharp wind blades around him.
He could also use it to float in the air but that was a different story.

His shorts were already soaked to around mid-thigh, and he didn't need the rest of his body to be cold and wet. Unfortunately, the sand was a bit wetter and slicker than Oliver would have liked, and he fell butt-first into the cold water.
Oliver splashed around a bit before wiping the salty water from his eyes. "You suck, Chris," Oliver moaned. Oliver stood up and brushed the sand from his ass.
"Yeah, you'd like that wouldn't you Marshall. Plus, even if I did catch a cold.. I know that you'd be there to keep me snug"
Was that... no, it couldn't be! A hint of playful flirting coming from Christopher Hawthorn? Oliver wiggled his eyebrows, "Damn right," he snickered.
Right then, as if on cue, a large gust of wind blew across the beach, causing Oliver's cold wet shirt to stick to him in the most uncomfortable of ways. He clutched his arms across his chest, shivering slightly, and sat back down in the water along side Chris.
"What are you doing?" Oliver asked, curiously, watching as the water around the other boy started moving differently in relation with the rest of the ocean. Oliver raised an eyebrow at the other boy, completely and utterly clueless as to what was going on.

The boy's mouth twitched lightly as he caught the sight of the other falling onto the water. It was a funny thing to watch, seeing the blonde flail around the water.
"You suck, Chris,"
The crimson eyed boy merely nodded at the comment, his eyes seeming to follow the blonde. It didn't make that much of a difference, just that they were both soaked.
"Damn right,"
He didn't bother to reply and turned around to see if the beach chair and his book were still there and not all around the beach getting blown by the sea breeze. Apparently, it stayed there, as if the strong wind didn't bother it.
The gust of wind that came right after gave the boy a chill and Oliver sat right next to him while he was in the middle of his wind 'tricks'.
"What are you doing?"
Busted. The boy paused his doings and let a small wave crash over him or.. them. He shook his head like a dog would, making water drip out of his black hair.
"..Shit.."
He sighed, the boy's crimson eyes showing the expression of a child getting caught doing something bad.
"Do.. You know the four.. elements?"
He asked, beginning to play with the water again, pushing the waves back using the wind. Not even waiting for a reply, the boy continued on but only after scanning the area for any yokai or other elementals.
"Water, Fire, Earth, and Air and all four elements could be classified into whatever element an elemental uses.. Such as air, the elemental would be called a sylph.. like me"
He chose to say the last part carefully before continuing on.
"And.. fire, earth, and water elementals are called salamanders, gnomes, and undines respectively."
He looked at the other before leaning on him, exhausted.
"This.. Is why I don't talk.."
He breathed, sighing once more.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I'VE HAD ENOUGH FEARS, YOU'VE LET THEM OUT NOW I WRAP MYSELF AROUND YOU LIKE A BLANKET FULL OF DOUBT Oliver let the wave crash over his head, still stunned from what Chris seemed to be doing. Under the water, Oliver pinched himself, but to his surprise, he definitely wasn't dreaming.
"Do.. You know the four.. elements?" Oliver stared at the other boy, taking in every detail of his facial features. The blonde boy nodded, before Chris continued to speak.
Truthfully, Oliver had no idea what to say. His best friend, the guy he'd liked for a long time wasn't human. He was... what was he? Oliver had never been at such a loss for words. He swallowed a few times before getting everything through his head.
"So, wait. You're a sl--sil... a what?" he asked, forgetting the name. "I don't understand this," he shook his head, salt water droplets flying everywhere as he watched Chris playing with the water like before.
Oliver was upset. No, he was beyond upset. This was a huge deal, and he thought he and Chris were friends. More than friends, they were like brothers... (with benefits, of course)
"Am I not important to you?" he asked carefully, "Why couldn't you tell me something this big? Did you think I wasn't good enough to know?"
Oliver scoffed, getting up from the sand, ready to walk away in case Chris agreed with the statement. "Is it against the law for me to know that my closest friend isn't human?" he snapped, not exactly sure why he was getting so upset. If only he knew...
Oliver stared at Chris, unsure what he would do if Chris said he wasn't good enough. He liked the other boy, a lot, and he didn't want to lose him. But what if Oliver really didn't mean that much to Chris? What could he do? He sure as hell didn't want to walk away.

"So, wait. You're a sl--sil... a what?"
Christopher glanced at the other before looking back down onto the water, regretting everything that he told Oliver. From the looks of the boy, he was surprised and upset from what he had heard.
"A.. sylph"
The response came slowly, much more slowly than what an average Chris spoke.
"Am I not important to you?"
The question made Chris freeze, it was an obvious yes but before he could answer another pair of questions were asked.
"Why couldn't you tell me something this big? Did you think I wasn't good enough to know?"
Soon after, the other stood up, making Chris have to look up at the blonde just to see his face.
"Th-that's not.. it.. Yes, you are.. important to me but.. I don't want you to get.. caught in this.. stupid, useless war.."
"Is it against the law for me to know that my closest friend isn't human?
The boy stood up as well, looking right into the emerald eyes of his companion. It wasn't against the law and yes, he wasn't particularly human but it didn't matter.
"Listen.. It's for your own safety. Stay away from those that seem.. Like they're some kind of animal. A fox, rabbit, whatever... If you're gonna leave.. Just.. be careful"
He warned but as he talked, his temperature rose slowly, along with the heat of wind. It was like a heatwave.

Oliver shrugged, "Whatever,"
He didn't want to go, but Chris wasn't anything Oliver had thought he was. He was different, unnatural. It wasn't supposed to go like this, either, Chris was supposed to be human, and they were supposed to be all good with each other... and fall in love and be happy. But as of right now, Oliver wasn't sure he was too happy.
He liked Chris. He really really liked Chris. More than he liked anyone before, and Oliver was well known for his random hook ups. But Chris was different. Keyword: 'was'. He was different, but not in the way Oliver had thought. He'd lied, perhaps to keep Oliver safe, but who cared? Oliver should have known.
"You lied to me," Oliver whispered, unable to speak any louder. "You... you're not..." he choked on his words and fell to the ground, letting the water around him soak into his skin, burning his eyes when it splashed around his face. Not human was what he wanted to say, but the woulds just wouldn't form in his mouth.
"Th-that's not.. it.. Yes, you are.. important to me but.. I don't want you to get.. caught in this.. stupid, useless war.."
Oliver shook his head, unsure if it was the salt water from the ocean around him or his own tears that were making his mouth salty. "I... I want to be important," he finally said, trying to hold back tears. He was supposed to be a tough badass, but around Chris, that just seemed to melt away.
"Because... I like you Chris, you're my best friend, and..." he shook his head, letting his drying bangs fall into his face, covering his eyes, "That doesn't seem to matter when you're going around being some kind of mutant-person without telling me," Oliver rubbed his eyes, and crawled slowly over to the other boy, burying his head in Christopher's wet shoulder.
"Listen.. It's for your own safety. Stay away from those that seem.. Like they're some kind of animal. A fox, rabbit, whatever... If you're gonna leave.. Just.. be careful"

""You lied to me,"
The boy could barely hear the other since he was whispering and although the close distance between them was undeniable, the whispering was unaudible
"You... you're not..."
Those three words almost ensured a crack in the boy's heart. So what if he was a god damn elemental? He sure didn't want to be one. He wanted to stay out of the war, live like a regular human would.
Oliver soon crashed down into the water and Chris soon knelt in order to face him. He didn't think it would be that big of a deal. He didn't think that Oliver would've cared if he was an elemental or not. He.. He didn't think about what Oliver would think.
From what he could see. He made Oliver cry and a simple glance at the crying male was just unbearable.
"I'm s--"
"I... I want to be important,"
The blonde spoke right when Chris was about to finish his sentence. I'm Sorry but the other's want of importance mattered more to him.
"Because... I like you Chris, you're my best friend, and..."
And what? He looked but couldn't spy those emerald eyes of the younger male.
"That doesn't seem to matter when you're going around being some kind of mutant-person without telling me,"
Oliver then rested his head on the boy's shoulder and Chris couldn't help himself but wrap his arms around the blonde teen.
"I like you too... and.. just because I'm an elemental, it doesn't mean.. that, i'm not human.."
He was lying, he wasn't human. But.. Did it matter? Apparently so
