OOMAKA - KUN
The sky flickered ever so softly as creased clouds passed in front of the rising sun. The Quiet Beach was opening gracefully into a pleasant morning as dawn lit up. The temperature was perfect for a run on the rocky beach. The air was quite steady, save for an occasional breeze that would thoroughly chill through to the bone. The beach was, not surprisingly, devoid of any human life save for Tou, but then again Tou was not human, he was in fact a Yokai, a shape shifter thought to be found only in Japanese mythos. This particular Yokai had arrived early in the morning because nightmares had plagued his unconscious, thus causing him to wake up and feel the effects of a-more-than-well-deserved hangover due to obnoxiously unnecessary drinking habits.
Tou’s bright blue eyes showed him that the beach was true to its name as it was not only quite, but also a bit eerie. What Tou’s eyes did not show him was anything more than a hundred meters in the distance, as a shroud of haze seemed to almost selectively haunt the sands, rather than the ocean. Making an attempt in vain, Tou squinted to see past the fog, but, much to his annoyance could not make anything of the swirling plumes of dense vapor. It could be a bit of an obstacle for his morning jog, but the fog would most likely be burnt off as the day commenced. He would start of a slow jog to get his heart pumping, and then could take off with ease as soon the haze lifted.
The sand embedded in Tou’s shoelaces, after only a few minutes of being on the beach, gnawed coarsely on the callous of Tou’s fingers as he finished tightening the last lace. “Damn all of this sand,” muttered the Tanuki weakly. Tou unwillingly acknowledged the stupidity of his statement, as there was bound to be sand on a beach. Luckily there mostly rocks on the beach, and right at the water, the sand was patted down firmly due to the crashing of waves. It could be messy at parts, but as long as he kept the perfect distance away from the sand dunes and the water he could avoid the mucking sands.
A chilling gust of air shook Tou to the bone. The cold was insufferable. It would be highly appropriate for Tou to take his start lest he be forced to weather yet another breeze without his body pumping hot blood through his veins. Tou took a final sip from his water bottle, his sixth one of the day as he had been slugging them down in bouts as to ease the discomfort of the throbbing headache of his hangover. Thinking about his hangover, Tou thought that he could literally feel a hole burning through his liver and approaching his skin.
Thwat, thwat, thwat. Tou’s feet beat heavily against the ground after his body kicked into full drive, as the sun had burnt of the fog, and the wind had swept it away. He had been running for an estimated half hour, and he could feel an almost delightful burning sensation in his legs and lungs. The lactic acid building up inside of Tou’s muscles compelled him to rest, despite the almost euphoric build-up of poison in his muscles. Oomaka-kun could feel his body slowing down, until he came to an absolute stop. Tou’s body finally choked up causing him to double over. His breathing could not keep up his heart rate causing him intense discomfort. Perhaps it was not the smartest idea for him to have just stopped dead in his tracks.
“Augh, damn it!” cried the Yokai. Tou let his body fall back into the sand. His face reddening with frustration he let out a breath of hot air. Tou had forgotten his water bottle back at the opening to the beach. Tou could not figure which was worse, the fact that he had no water and was close to dehydration, or the fact that his fall back into the sand had displaced much sand and caused a cloud of dust to settle on himself and into his clothes. Oomaka gulped down the anger that built up inside his throat.
After about an hour and a half of lying down in the dirt in the most pathetic manner possible, Tou figured that it was about time that he made his way back to the water lest the sun just fry him right up. Getting up, Tou let out a slight grunt. If he moved at a steady, calm jog, he would be able to get back quickly. After around another half-hour Tou was approaching the path that lead back the Academy and Silent Cove. With the path back to Silent Cove in sight, Tou knew that the water bottle would be in sight soon. Finally.
